I did have a brief break to read The Ressurectionists which was so Gothic that it was actually quite enjoyable.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08577641788742285017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876862148358784705.post-66357752412840489942009-12-27T19:10:12.338+00:002009-12-27T19:10:12.338+00:00You do review books well. I usually find myself using the same old words - either 'load of rubbish' or 'totally brilliant writing'.

I just can't stop reading books by John Irving. After four back to back I decided I really had to put him to one side, lest he palled, but - after a few pages of a Graham Greene book I hadn't read - I just went back to another Irving. I think he really is the best living writer today. When I announced that to Mr FF (who has only read the 'Garp book - good, but not one of Irving's best) - we had a heated discussion about the merits of his writing. Well - ok then, I grudgingly said - yes, in *my* opinion he is the world's best living writer which doesn't make him the best.

Humph!

Have a lovely new year Mark and family and may 2010 bring you only lovely things

JulieFrench Fancy...https://www.blogger.com/profile/04941577892849157015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876862148358784705.post-85083564847380815042009-12-24T11:18:05.960+00:002009-12-24T11:18:05.960+00:00I love the sound of both Never Let Me Go and Error...I love the sound of both Never Let Me Go and Error world...I can't wait for the summer when I'll actually have time to myself to read what I want to rather than what the Uni has told me to!!

C xCarolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12327016337976942530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876862148358784705.post-40416818188886132642009-12-24T10:36:42.023+00:002009-12-24T10:36:42.023+00:00Me too! I have a pile of new books, mainly craft ones, to look at as well as new novels gathered over the preceeding months and stashed away behind my usual waiting to be read shelf. Luckily I remembered they were there.....!
Have a good Christmas, with peace aplenty in which to enjoy your reading. We have plenty of that, since we don't do Christmas and therefore are saved from the pressures.pinkfairygranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09497901949136714254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876862148358784705.post-57810841224856986752009-12-24T08:08:21.344+00:002009-12-24T08:08:21.344+00:00I may have to head to Waterstones in the January s...I may have to head to Waterstones in the January sales...! All his books have left a deep impression and some scenes I remember vividly years later, at the same time forgetting some really important things I'm supposed to be doing. You know how it is! I read something by Carson McCullers a few years back, and also Willa Cather's My Antonia, liked that a lot. Will look out for Nocturnes.Mary Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02928467917550027272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876862148358784705.post-84685090459885505162009-12-23T21:22:58.602+00:002009-12-23T21:22:58.602+00:00The books I ordered are arriving now...so much for...The books I ordered are arriving now...so much for my panic...and I'm looking forward to undisturbed reading time.
